I'm very much new at this and going to get a lot wrong, but I wanted to at least get some stuff in the ground instead of worrying about perfection.
I mostly killed this stretch of grass in front of my house, although the soil still seems pretty shit. Clay-like and rocky. Still, I thought with all the sunlight and rain we've been getting, something is bound to grow. I also have a compost pile in the back that I've been adding to and turning for about 2 years, but haven't ever really added it to anything before. There's still things I've added in there in the past month and am not sure which parts of the compost would be "good" or broken down enough to add.
I live in middle TN and have now added the root part of an onion I used, some lettuce tape I bought (didn't notice it was tape at the time), and some pumpkin seeds into the ground. I'm still germinating broccoli, carrot, and green bean seeds. Carrots will have to go in pots most likely because of the soil.
Any general advice for plant survival? I have a pretty low bar for success here since I've even killed succulents in the past, but want to do something this year while it's growing season.
