The vendee boats don't go upwind you'll note they try to stick to TWA of 90. ( That's how they get such high NM per day) Compared to most other ocean crossing boats which go upwind. You'll note the vendee boats only really carried R1-R4's, they have a few soft sails but it's all reaching. That's why the windage means nothing.
