A trilogy of books called The Bread Sister of Sinking Creek, Maggie Among the Seneca, Up the Frozen River. Pretty much like little house on the prairie. First book establishes the lives of the characters living in central PA. 2nd book is about them being captured by Seneca Indians and the Stockholm syndrome that goes with it. 3rd book is pretty much winter survival. Can't really go into it because it would spoil plot points from the 2nd book.
Where the red fern grows. Boy wants to go coon hunting, but no doggos for cooning. Boy raises money for doggos and rafts down river to town to buy doggos to go coon hunting.
