But more importantly, the staining on the pore surface, outer stem, and stem flesh was an almost instant (5 seconds at most) deep, dark blue.
This is contrary to what's been said of xerocomus and the pictures I've seen - see the 5th and 6th pictures--I wouldn't have possibly been able to capture that even right after cutting it in half:
