This will cut down on wind knots or backlash. If you are using heavy lures it's best to use a shock leader of mono or fluorocarbon of about 10 feet(or however long it is from your lure to reel when casting) to prevent breaking your lure off during a cast. If you are using a level wind baitcaster this will be difficult getting the mono-to-braid knot to go through. Spinning or conventional reel with no level wind is best. Also if you are tying directly to lures, use a polymer knot as it won't slip. braid works great in heavy vegetation but sucks against timber. If you are fishing against timber a fluorocarbon leader helps. Lastly braid floats, making it ideal for topwater or fishing in current but if you are fishing deep structure or using a vertical presentation fluorocarbon mainline is better since it sinks.
