It's easier for me to visualize a 3D sewing project while I'm working on it than to do all the math ahead of time, and there's a lot of math when you're working with curved surfaces. I'll hand sew a lot of things if they aren't particularly (load bearing?) the cocoon hammock was all done by hand; the hammock has a lot of pressure on it but the sleeping bag just hangs loose.
