Don't skimp on tires. Get nice fucking tires, you won't want to get a blow out 500 miles in. Getting flats every 100 miles sucks too. Schwalbe is bretty good. Personally I use Maxxis re-fuse. Make sure you know how to fix basic things on your bike. Know how to retune a wheel etc.
