An oiled neck is as close to barewood as you get without 'finger oil' voodoo. If you want your guitar to last you won't sand your neck down.
Leaving a neck bare=stupid.
Your hands don't only secret oils but sweat.
It also has 0 protection from being bumped/hit. With lacquer or oil you can just fill the spot or sand it down.
And 0 protection from humidity other sources of moisture.
A properly lacquered neck has plenty of 'neck speed'.
