THE BULK OF YOUR WORK will be subcontracting through cal-trans to do roadside work. You will be in shitty thicket removing trash and clearing out rat nests along the highway.
If it is summer, expect to not see your house for more than 1-2 days a month because they will pull you away on fire camp runs because the supervisors get paid fuck tons. the math was for two weeks, a crew pulls in 100k of tax money; the supervisor gets about 12k, each peasant crewmember gets a little over 1k each, and the huge majority goes to the center office management. They do nothing but cater to appearance. It is embezzlement and corruption to the core. They will snatch up any fire camp contract they can, and send two crews if they can even if it warrants one. I had camps where one crew just sat around for two-three weeks because there literally was nothing to do at a dead camp that was closing down. 100,000$
If you want hard, honest work OP- go somewhere else. It's unfortunate but the CCC is a scam. Pic related is an ass-kisser who did this even during work time and never got in trouble. But he is the guy who is going to promote instead of you because the CCC is corrupt and is for-favors.
Go with Amer-korps directly, or even the peace korps.
