Some fish like bass and trout just have catch-and-release ethics strongly associated with them because hardcore bass and trout fishermen have severe autism, to the point that they'd rather fish get overpopulated and stunted than take a fish home for the table. Also there's a bit of a race/class thing going on sometimes where people associate taking certain fish home (especially bass and rough fish like carp) with poor people, white trash, asians, etc.
