Handshakes, morning coffee gatherings, knowing everyone who farms and everything they're doing, good relationships with neighbors, regularly visiting landlords, maintaining contact with the USDA office, knowing the guys at the elevator/market....if you think you can be a farmer and not talk to people you don't know shit about farming.
