Never really had many friends. Raised indoors from a young age, but progressively spent more time /out/ with my dad on properties, and started walking around. I enjoyed the scenery, but wasn't exactly /out/.
I got a menial /out/ bush regen job for six months, and the change from being inside was astonishing. I incessantly fucking peppered my supervisor with questions about plant species and animals, and started taking drives to get nice panoramas of scenery.
Got an IT job, hated sitting all day, quit the fuck out of it did another six month stint (lol green army) and used that to finally get a decent bush regen job.
I only had a few friends, but we drifted apart over time, not that I was really one for socialising. I started walking trails more and more, got some AV gear (bought a point-and-shoot, a Zoom and just recently inherited a DSLR) and started autistically snapping pictures of nearly every interesting thing.
I'm determined to do a lap around Australia, see everything and then jump across to NZ and do the same, and that's what I intend to do once some family drama stuff finally wraps up.
Now I'm happy to sit by myself in the bush, take in the sights, listen for critters (personal favourite is whistling at Wonga pigeons, the dumbshits walk right up to you every time) and just chill out. My old boy might not be around in person anymore, but the passion is still there.
a nice pic related for you, these little buggers always come down and check out what you're doing, making sure you don't bother their nest, they've got a lovely song too
