Just lie there and rationalise everything that would have killed you, and why, and realise that you're not that special
>no one goes missing randomly unless they are a crackhead or an amerilard that falls down a gulch
>hundreds of thousands of people are camping right now wondering the same thoughts as you
>there's no reason any "creature" in the woods would want to attack you, of all the activities it's up to
>why would that /x/ creature even be interested in you, let alone openly being hostile towards a paranoid /out/ist with axes and knives
>they don't call them cryptids for nothing, if there's anything out there it's going to be more timid and elusive than bigfoot
>if you did encounter something spooky, why wouldn't you or it be friendly? Presumably you're not an asshat that burns down forests or plays loud music all night. You could probably offer it some of your food, or if it's a higher intelligence, invite it to have a drink with you and maybe share some conversation
Something I like to do before I go to sleep is to speak aloud to the forest something along the lines of "cheers for letting me stay in your forest, brahs, I'll be on my way tomorrow and I'll take all this with me. If you're out there don't be afraid, we can have a drink, it's all cool my dude/dudes/dudettes. Goodnight!" then I imagine the most horrific, long limbed, pale spindly creature that's been following and watching me having a nice cup of tea and maybe talking about skinwalker things or things that're happening in his forest, urban development, how it's cool there's no niggers out here etc. We'd probably listen to some black metal on my phone and jam, maybe cook something together, perhaps I'd even trade something with him or just give him a gift for being a nice bro and letting me pass through.
Another strategy is to just imagine yourself as Conan the Barbarian. You fear nothing, and your wits will wake you the instant before your doom, as you cleave the beast in two
