Especially if you're using hot rounds like you'd want for a bear. I personally would rather have something that will stop the bear on the first shot, because I may not have time for a second shot since follow up shots take longer.
Fwiw my philosophy on guns for self defense is the opposite. I'd rather have capacity than the small gains in velocity/"power" the big 3 (9, .40, .45) have. But that's only because it's relatively easy to magdump and still have a decent group.
Now if we were talking about .357 out of a rifle I'd probably agree with you. Pick related has destroyed a couple hogs.
