>>141085Build it on a bed of stone/rocks, ring it with stone/rock. Only put in sticks and logs, no paper or leaves. In a 10 feet diameter area around the fire pit remove all burnable materials (grass, leaves, etc). Check out this image and cross reference which woods in your area send out the least amount of sparks. Make sure there are no overhanging trees.
This is the best you can do to keep a fire going and have it be as safe as possible.
