That depletion of the ozone layer was prevented by coordinated international action against CFCs. Had they not been banned, the ozone layer would have been gone within our lifetimes. There's still a hole over Antarctica, but it's way better than it could be.
The international response to the ozone layer is a great example in favor of coordinated efforts to stop environmental catastrophe.
