>>1459709It's a job first and foremost. Don't expect to make very much or go home more than once a month your first year. The second is ok. After the second year the insurance on you as a driver drops and you can get on with a smaller company and be home on weekends. I own a modest rig and the company. It's cool but you still have to run. I think I could make more selling insurance but it's a cool life. Be prepared to work 14 hour days 11 of which is spent driving. I trained when I was a company man, I loved ex military not sure why but they tend to adapt well. Your tuition assistance will cover cdl school. Try to find a 3 month program, one month programs are just too short.
Hygiene... You get a free shower token when you buy fuel at the truck stop. Shower every other day on average. I like to take a bird bath with baby wipes on the off evening. I have a microwave in the truck as well as my backpacking stove to cook on. Half size dorm fridge to keep fresh food. I try to hit a Walmart once a week and stock up. Entertainment consist of phone posting. Internet is surprisingly sparse if you don't have a giant data plan. I try not to entertain on the truck. It's my office. I try to find board women with their own shelter. Redneck chicks love truckers and usually have a single wide daddy bought em. I game occasionally. My desktop is in storage. I got into ark for awhile. I like the stalker series because no internet required. I do have a laptop. I try to hunt down wifi and download media when the opportunity arises.
