>>495869Well, I've yet to do anything on Pike's Peak itself. I usually go just south or a bit north of there. My current favorite area is between Palmer Lake and Monument, only about 20 minutes from CO Springs. Hiking up to Palmer Resoirvor number two would make for a fantastic first timer's overnight. A short hike uphill and you're there, just make sure to camp a little ways past the lake.
Here's the coords for the small parking area. You'd just hike west from here, it's a very easy trail to follow. Uphill a bit but you'll be at the second lake in less than half an hour, most likely.
