>>786132>>786018One of my coworkers was the engineer for a large stormwater pump station. To access the wet well(where the water comes in), you needed to descend a large stairway marked with "CONFINED SPACE ENTRY ONLY" signs.
Contractors usually disregard these signs whenever possible (muh profit). One guy went down and didn't come back up. His friend went down after him and died as well.
The wetwell was still under construction. Exposed patches of soil offgased into the area and displaced the oxygen.
You should never go in if someone's in an emergency.
