Fortunately I didn't have to test that particular scenario when I visited Detroit a few years ago.
However, apparently it is not safe (for white people) to be in an IHOP after the bars close, according to the security guard and waitress.
I went to a concert at Cobo Hall with a friend who lived an hour outside Detroit. Afterward, on the way home my dizzy blonde retarded wife pointed out an IHOP sign which of course meant we were stopping there. (She is rather dim, and deliberately oblivious to real-life actual danger situations.) My dad had been up there recently and had warned me before we went on the trip not to stop anywhere in town, therefore reminding her of the potential dangers just made her more insistent.
