I doubt anyone was following my wild chicken breeding experiment, but I am saddened to report that I have lost my mother hen of the "wild type" program. With her loss I only have two half blood hens of close to similar type and one cock of acceptable similarity who is yet to young to breed along with 10 eggs out of her and a "wlr cornish" cock which will be going in the incubator some time tomorrow in hopes of absolutely anything even remotely close to type with which to continue the program. Unfortunately due to the absolutely tiny amount of genetics and lack of any pure blood in the program I am fearful that the wild chicken project is now done with no results. I will keep the daughters and the cockerel and try to preserve what is left, but I am no longer optimistic for the future as I was this morning.
