>>610495>Ishmael is a good introduction to ideas concerning the criticism of civilizationTrue, it's a great diagnosis of much of the cause of modern civilization problems, but I consider it useful for a few more things. It's easily one of the best books for introducing people to the concepts of animism, and introducing people to the idea of an alternative perspective to the way that society operates, which is important because many people believe that their perceptions of morality and utilitarian society are objective.
It is very much an introductory and easy-access book concerning philosophy, though. Similar ones I recommend are "Things Fall Apart" and "The Good Earth", which similarly give you a dosage of an entirely different perspective from widespread modern society, though in a more first-person perspective. They're both pretty short and easy books too, you might as well read them.
Really, books having to do literally with /out/ aren't as important for /out/ as philosophical/cultural fiction and hard philosophy material. The lens through which you view life will have more to do with everything you do than Hatchet or something like that.
