The first rule of prepping is something nearly everyone forgets. That is community. You need to get to know your community, make ties with them, be friends with them, and share disaster preparedness with them. No matter where you live, save BFE with no neighbors, you need to get to know your local community. Without that, you are alone and lost in nearly any type of disaster. A well-prepared community is stronger than anything else. It doesn't matter who is in your local community, be they friends & family, or not. You need to get to know them.
