My father's been in the military his whole life and he'd say the same.
Ranger blankets are great. Do some research which are better and which are worse. There are difference generations of them.
The ones I've used are Canadian military and they're great.
if you buy surplus make sure the material inside hasn't bunched up or detached itself.
