But it's one of those things where as you progress you discover more and more areas you hadn't realized you have heavy external dependencies.
Growing some of your own food is a good start.

It's orthagonal to growing your own food though - Which is more of a time investment than a financial one. Setting up solar is a bunch of cash but not much labour.
