>>2529365Correct. I live in approximately in the area I've circled on the map, which I like to call the Paradisical Confluence.
It's mountain laurel and pawpaw country, AKA top-tier, featuring plenty of public land, a long stretch of the AT and various smaller trails, lakes (mostly artificial impoundments, sadly) of all sizes in every direction, plenty of game and a few nice hunting preserves, streams big and small running through virtually every town and city and the spaces between. There are several fantastic State and National Parks nearby. It's about an eight-hour drive to OBX, Bethany Beach, or Virginia Beach (absolute shit, used to live there, but it's a beach of sorts).
Also, all of the shit weather everyone else is suffering just passes by my holler under the protection of the gentle Appalachians. They may not be as tall as muh big rock out west, but on the other hand: no tornadoes, no blizzards, no nor'easters, no wildfires, no -50F temps, no tsunamis, no (actual) floods, etc.
