In a residential neighborhood 3 miles form the closest major water source you could still get bitten by upwards of 40 mosquitoes in less than a half hour. Spend one night in the heat with the bugs and you'll miss your family. Besides that, the beaches are mostly intensely developed, and often patrolled by local law enforcement who don't take kindly to vagrants.
