As someone else already mentioned the "leave no trace" thing is for areas with lots of people coming and going. If you go places like northern Maine, Alaska, etc... you'll find trapping cabins and survival shelters here and there. Nobody gives a shit if you cut down trees to make a cabin or shelter in those kinds of places.
Again, it's only for places that are visited by lots of people.
