Hey /myc/, I'm due to start a evolutionary genetics project in a few months. My supervisor says I can choose the model.
She has Cecilians in mind, but I'm more interested in fungi. I need to identify a clade/family/species of evolutionary interest to pitch to her, does anyone have any suggestions?
I was thinking about comparing the genomes of several bioluminescent fungi, such as Omphalotus nidiformis or Omphalotus olearius. They're of scientific and ecological interest and there isn't much data on why or how these fungi have evolved to glow.
What are some of /myc/'s favourite odd-ball fungi?
