As far as I know, man-portable tents or tarps were not used by northern European outdoorsmen in historical times, either, so it's somewhat unlikely a prehistoric outdoorsman would have used one. A lean-to made with fir branches for cover (picture related) was the usual shelter for a historical outdoorsman at least here in Finland, so that might possibly come into question. I don't know if Old Norse literary sources mention temporary shelters of any kind.
Gokstad is farm in Norway where an Iron age ship has been found; the so-called Gokstad backpack is backpack that was found buried with the ship along with numerous other artifacts.
