>>266158My bad, realized I didn't answer all of your questions.
> what was the weather like?Generally pretty good. We had 2 weeks at the end of july and 2 weeks at the beginning of august. By the end, leaves were already changing for autumn in the alpine and the mosquitoes were dying down.
I think the best time we be going in mid August coming out in mid September, because I've seen pictures of the territory in the fall and it's really beautiful. Plus for those long uphill hikes it wouldn't hurt to have some chill in the wind. It does get quite hot in summer, and the mosquitoes are absolutely ridiculous. There are times, when the wind dies down, where you just hear this low buzz grow louder and louder and then you're engulfed in this black clouds of satan's vampiric butterflies. They bite through multiple layers of clothing, right through your hair too. If you're sleeping on the side of the tent they will bite through the nylon. It was insane to the point where it was funny how bad it was. To make this worse, the Yukon has such enormous landscapes that depending on your course you can find yourself spending a few days crossing a marshland, and there's no escape from the bugs.
There was also a four day rainstorm, which isn't unusual at all. There were several other short storms like pic related. That one snuck up on us and hit fast and hard, lasting only like fifteen minutes but dropping the temperature about twenty degrees and swelling the run offs.
It's an extreme place.
