One time I was in Newcastle, WY with my family. Me and my dad decided to find a trail and go for a walk before dinner. We read about this trail a couple miles outside of town and drive out to it. We started to get uneasy at the trailhead when we see signs posted saying "Warning: Mountain lion habitat". There was also a deer skeleton close to the trailhead. The skeleton wasn't all that fresh but it was fairly intact (not like it had been butchered by a hunter). We continue down the trail about half a mile before we hear it. A roar probably 200 meters away. At this point we are getting worried and decide to head back to the car. Being unarmed, I picked up the sharpest rock I could find to defend myself. It was an unnerving walk back to the car. I kept looking back over my should to make sure we weren't be stalked, and throwing rocks wherever I saw movement in the bushes.
