Will it kill a deer? Sure! So will .22LR! The question isn't "Is it enough for (insert game animal here)?", the question is "Why would I pack (x) when for (insert acceptable trade-off) I can pack (y)?" For example, since you've already made the decision to take a shotgun, why would you chose .410 over 20ga? Sure, you can't carry as much ammo, but you can do so much more with the ammo you can carry, it's well worth the trade.
Unless .410 is all your nanny lets you have, in which case, that's the best you can do.
