What to carry?
As little as possible. although I suggest you don't catch on the fly, just remember that you have to be able to jump on, and off a moving train with your shit. I did a two week stint last summer with nothing more than a serape from CA to NM and back. (come to think of it, rolling through el paso looking like a Mexican probably wasn't the smartest idea).
Find some hippie politically correct, i-phone trotting, scanner listening kids outside a collective or drop-in or something. Tell them you'll buy them a beer to copy their crew change.
