But if you know that are digging trenches or dikes for your tent in case of rain, then an e-tool would be justified. I have an old swedish army milsurp e-tool (from the 80s) in my car. It weighs a lot but is essentially undestroyable. I wouldn't go backpacking with it due to its cumbersome nature. I also have a current issue e-tool of the Finnish defence forces, made by Fiskars, and it is a lot more packable and lighter, but you lose in usability then.
