Let me get you all up to speed because my last detailed post seems to be with the gay couple which feels like years ago now.
So the day I left the campground the gay couple payed for I was in a very quiet part of highway 11 so I decided to walk and thumb walking about 6 miles before getting to a gas station where a couple gave me 20bucks and a guy gave me a ride to this very small town named Buchanan.
There I see a guy with his dog thumbing near where I dropped off, this being first time I have seen anybody hitchhiking other than me so I went up to him and started talking to him in an attempt to garner some knowledge and that I did. His name was Tennessee slim, traveller/hobo by trade. A tall, very skinny fella about 23 with a semi full beared and long hair tied under a cap. he had been hiking the Appalachian trail for a few months and prior to that was on the road for a year, he had hitchhiked cross country 3 times. A very kind man he was happy to share with me his learnings from the road and a few tricks.
When it got dark he showed me a very cool place by the river to pitch a tent where he had stayed the night before and we talked for hours into the night
The next day we got lunch, charged our phones and went our separate ways, I got a ride to a truck stop and then thumbed on an on ramp to the 81. After waiting about 20mins a very excitable middle aged man picked me and after talking for a while he offered to cook me some dinner and give me a place to stay in Roanoke. His name was Robert, he is a doctor in Buchanan and at first I wasn't so sure because I wanted to get further ahead but then I realized it would be dark soon and he said he had a few daughters so I took him up on it. This turned out to be a great offer.
