Yesterday. Camped and spent the day driving around Arizona. On a road trip from Denver to about midway to Grand Junction, down to Great Sand Dunes National Park, to Mesa Verde National Park to Shiprock New Mexico to Canyon de Chelly to the eastern Grand Canyon / Vermillion area (where I am now) for some slot canyons.
Bit the bullet on paying to go to a good one on Navajo land after Cathedral Wash in Glen Canyon was underwhelming.
Going to Grand Canyon South after today. I have five more days and need to fly out of Phoenix early Wednesday, anything else around I shouldn't miss?
Planning on spending some time in Flagstaff and Sedona too.
Can't do anything too strenuous because I have my wife who is 3.5 months pregnant so going to the bottom of the Grand Canyon is probably out as it's 114 degrees. Also didn't bring my climbing gear due to that.
Quit my job for a full remote one with "unlimited" vacation last year. 22% pay cut, but I've been to 23 states and Canada in 6 months due to also being able to road trip and work from places. No regrets there.
Here is Canyon de Chelly, in Navajo land near the NM/AZ border, also has gorgeous forests around it. Absolutely no one else there since it is fairly remote.
