Keep in mind criminals are lazy people, they are not going to walk more than 30 minutes away from their truck, and they are not out there looking for someone, so, if you keep a low profile, they are not going to notice you. Just be aware of the dogs, if they bark at you, you are screwed.
Dont wear bright colors, keep the fire at a bare minimum, and dont dress to fancy, try to dress like a local. The rest, just do some stealth camping.
Also, Hidalgo used to be a safe state, locals are pretty chill, but sometimes people from puebla and edomex come here to do their shitty stuff.
