they might be a bit on the heavy side, but that's because they're not using that light foam most hiking shoes have for the sole. i've never had good experiences with those who's using the foam-ish soles, the adhesive keeping them together tends to wear up quickly and splitting the sole from the shoe.
i've had patagonia, salomon and McKinley but these are far by the best.
