>>1163627Bowfag here. Been shooting for 5 years off and on and it requires a lot of practice. Ranges I go to are set for 20 yards and it may take you awhile to get proficient at hitting something the size of a rabbit from that distance. Especially if you decide to avoid gadgets and just do barebow/instinctive. I will however attest to the fact you can get extremely accurate with enough time and practice. There's tons of people who use compound and olympic style bows with sights and everything. On my best days I can shoot just as accurately as someone who uses all those 'cheat' gizmos. Just be patient and acknowledge that you will be shit and it will take time. Mostly I shoot for fun and it's a mental game of concentration and meditation more then anything. The moment you get frustrated and angry is when you start to shoot like crap.
I've never gone hunting because I haven't been confident in my skills to cleanly take down an animal and it never really intereseted me until now. But, I bought some judo points and plan on going hunting with my bro this winter when the weather isn't fucking -40.
Bear is excellent quality and my first bow was a 45lb Bear. I'd recommend getting a cheap 30lb as a starter/practice bow, and work your way up once you have your technique and strength built up.
