Some people took this path because on the map it looked shorter, and low clouds prevented them from seeing the ridge. You can get quick weather changes out there as well.
Sure, the route from Llanberis is nice and easy steady slope, but you always should give it some look before you go with shorts, chocolate and water bottle.
As for OP, just use common sense. Have a map, or even a website printed route sketch, no matter how easy it seems. Watch the weather or be prepared for everything, otherwise don't be afraid or ashamed to go back.
