The problem with most machetes it that they are dull as fucking shit. They, unsurprisingly work much better once properly sharp, but many people don't have the time or skill or materials to re profile a long blade.
I am kind of a major shill for this, but I really love mine. The Schrade Priscilla Brush Sword. I pretty much use mine in place of a hatchet chopping wise. And there only $30.
