I know of this abandoned cabin that is use every once in a while. A ringtail cat has started living there and it is great, it keeps the mice and other rodents away so I don't have to worry about Hanta Virus (as much) or little things getting in the cabinet where there is some emergency food. No little rodents also gives less incentives for snakes to stick around. We keep the doors latched and able to be opened from the outside but every once in a while a bear will get in. As long as there is no food available to it it's not too bad...
