I used to put it everywhere, with very good success, but these days I don't bother unless it's an important plant or vegetables/fruit need to be protected.
Also, I don't own a dog, but often watch a family dog and he's very good at keeping the squirrels out of the yard.
There's also lots of other things you can try. I'm happy enough with the occasional use of bird netting. Good luck with whatever you try doing.
