Well, the diy incubator is nearly full to capacity with the third batch of duck eggs. There's 32 eggs in this batch. Egg laying production spiked this past week and I'm now getting 4-5 eggs daily from 5 hens.
Some are going to be muscovy, but most will be pekin. I'll probably sell off the muscovy ducks. I want the pekin ducks for eggs and meat. The muscovy ducks can fly which becomes a nuisance unless their wings are clipped, which is also a nuisance.
The temps, in the diy incubator, are dipping down as the eggs chill the air (68F in holding), but should come up to proper temperature soon enough. Manually incubating eggs always makes me nervous. I'm constantly checking the temps and turning the eggs every 3 hours; 6 times a day from 6am to 9pm. I'm up at around 2-3am to check temps again. Even with the thermostat, on the commercial incubator, it is subject to outside temperature changes that can cause runaway heating/cooling.
I still have another automatic incubator and another thermostat on their way.
