Previously I've been disorganised and either bought rootstocks to graft directly, or just bought pre-grafted trees. This year I've decided to get ahead and grow rootstocks for the purpose propagating via layering, so that within a season or two I can fulfil my own requirements. It probably won't save me that much money as rootstocks are cheap, but it's the principle of being just a little less dependant on others.
Went up to the orchard today and planted the last three trees of the season, Mailing 25, 26 and 27 rootstocks. Plum buds are about to burst, spring is well and truly on its way.
Shot some tasty vermin too.
