You can cross streams in them with your boot going below the water level but unless your socks wick the water down, your feet will remain dry, I've done it several times. Just because you've been wearing faggy boots your entire /out/ career and have never experienced dry boots in rain doesn't mean it isn't possible. Seriously, stop being miserable in the rain wearing squelchy footwear, there are far better ways.
