I'm a Park Warden for Parks Canada. My job is "to protect natural and cultural resources" I'm kinda like a cross between a mountie(our federal police service) and a natural resources officer. Although I don't get paid nearly close to what they do. I carry a firearm and have full arrest powers and can detain, etc just like any other officer can.
My day mostly consists of patrols. Often on my own. Assisting the public in the park. Answering questions. Enforcing laws and regs. When search and rescue Op's need to happen myself and the other wardens usually organize them with the RCMP as we know the park's "best"
I currently make $35.60/HR, I've been doing the job for two years - I'm 25
I have a double major degree in criminal justice and environmental compliance so that may have helped.
I'm employed by Parks Canada so that's a federal position but in Canada you can be employed by several different agencies. Although the job titles may sound the same they can often be very different. You can work for all of these agencies in Canada as a Park Warden or Ranger. Some are considered Peace Officers (full police power) others are just protection and compliance or not even enforcing any laws or regs at all and may/may not have a firearm
It's a fuckton of paperwork if shit happens or somethings going on. (forest fires happening etc) but most of my time is out in the field interacting with the public
