I use a panasonic FT4 for my waterproof /out/ camera.
Good:
>28mm wide end is just wide enough not to make me cut myself and write sad poetry
>Tough means it's there when my good camera would never have been considered
>Full manual mode, exposures up to 60 seconds
>HD movies, decent enough quality, if not fantastic
>produces pics that I am happy with for the type of camera it is
>gps and altimeter are kinda handy (but obviously no substitute for real navigational shit)
Bad:
>Aside from being tough, it's not as good in any respect as my 'keep it clean and dry" camera
>28mm wide end is only juuuust enough to not make me cut myself and write sad poetry
>Not AA batteries, which is a very good (if impossible to find) thing in an /out/ camera
>f3.4 at isn't exactly a lightning fast aperture
Overall:
I like it. There's only so much one can expect from a compact tough camera and this one was the only one with manual mode I could find, and just wide enough at 28mm not to make me cut myself (etc etc). For me it's the best of a bad bunch.
Also I have a Hero3 Black, but I've not used that enough to fully know my shit. So far it reminds me of my first camera, with its broken screen and retardedly wide angle lens glued onto the front. It's nothing to write home about image quality wise, and it's guesswork when framing shots, but when shit all comes together it can produce some very pleasing pics with a lot of character.
I'll chuck up a couple pics taken with the FT4 for comparison.
