Leather is heavy as fuck, provides little protection from impalement, isn't warm, doesn't breathe well, shrinks when wet, is expensive as hell and takes an age to dry properly (with a liner). Its primary role was to act as a second skin (e.g. against rough chainmail, as a belt, against road rash for bikers, used in boots, against fire for old firefighters, used as rope or thongs etc), meaning it's not a great outdoors fabric
Jeans as well, you could do well by replacing them with something just a little bit more suited. I wear gorka suit trousers I've treated with some waterproofing at exposed areas, serve me much better than my jeans did
